Ong Shi Wei 1000716399….. Im the last of posting the BLOG yeah!!!!

Question1. Based on the article, the Whittmanhart project team consists of 8 people who filled the 11 roles of designers and developers. Which tool(s) do you think the project manager used to ensure that the resources were well allocated according to the project activities?
Answer: Based on the article, that tools I think to use is project management software, change requests, progress reports, gantt charts to ensure that the resources were well allocated according to the project activities. Thomas Carlyle, a famous historian and author, stated “Man is a tool-using animal, Without tools he is nothing, with tools he is all.”(Schwalbe, 2008, pg. 13). Our world become more complex, therefore it is important to us to develop and use tools for managing projects.
Project managers was conducted to rate several project tools on a scale of low to high and the potential of the tools to helping us to improve project success. Tools that are already extensively used and have been found to improve project importance include progress reports, kick-off meetings, gantt charts, and change requests (Schwalbe, 2008, pg.14).
Project managers used the integration, time and communication management to ensure that the resources. Integration management tools is used to project selection methods, stakeholder analysis, project management software, change requests, and project review meetings. This tool is easy for us to analysis our project activities. Besides that, time management is gantt charts, critical path analysis, and schedule performance measurements. This tool for us is used to create a new application to check the list and information. Example gantt chart or project network diagrams. After that, communication management is communications management plans, kick-off meeting, and status and progress reports. This tool is check whether the progress of reports has going on or not. It is also giving us to communicate together and management the plan of the works to each member. In the end, project managers to develop knowledge and skills in managing projects, because it is important to learn from mistake and successes of others (Schwalbe, 2008, pg. 15).

Question2. The Whittmanhart project is heavily dependent on its human resources (i.e. project team members). What do you think the project manager would have done to ensure that the team members commit to this project? Elaborate your points with examples.
Answer: According to the Whittmanhart, the project team consists of 8 people who filled the 11 roles of designers and developers. Project manager think to observation and conversation, and issue logs to ensure that the team members commit to this project.
Observation and Conversation, I had tried to communicate with my team members to confirm their performing and feeling about their work. Many project managers also like to walk around to physically see and hear their works. It is because informal or formal conversations is about how a project activity is going on and provide crucial information. But we are assign a date and came out to meeting to communicate our assignments works and phase. Besides that, project managers should always observe and discuss work and personal issues by using email, mobile phone or other communications media (Schwalbe, 2008, pg. 393). Therefore we had used the gmail to update and edit new information, and we also using sms to ensure who have done the works about our assignment.
Issue logs, project managers should keep an issue logs to document, monitor, and track issues that need to be resolved for the project team to work effectively (Schwalbe, 2008, pg. 393). Issues also will include where team members have differences of opinion, situations that can be more clarification or investigation, or general concerns that need to be addressed. When we meet has sharing out own opinion to improve our works to get much better. Besides that, as a project managers should assign someone to resolve each issue and assign a target date for resolution. We also set a date to finished own works and easy discuss again at the second meeting. Therefore it can push team performance and take action to do the project.

  1. Comment on Q1:
Talking about people and (human) resources in a project management, the expected tool(s) would be more like RAM, RACI charts, Staffing Management Plan, Resource Histogram, Resource Loading, and Resource Leveling. I feel that your answer is too 'huge' as if it's a 'systemic' question. Good try, though.

    Comment on Q2:
Good answer for this part; you've tried to relate it to your own experience of project management within your assignment group.

It would wonderful if you could also mention the leadership skill of the project manager that would contribute to the team culture, which inhibits commitment towards project goal. A good project manager could make the team members feel appreciated and feel that they also 'own' the project, which makes them feel more committed to work on it.

    Good job, overall.
