Q1. PMCOE faced the largest challenge duo to the merging of SBC and AT&T. Describe whether this first challenge was seen as a positive or negative risk. What could be the project team’s response strategy?

Answer: 1. Although AT&A and SBC merging have some negative risks, like, The PMCOE also finding it difficult to determine the best way to support the over 10,000 employees that make up AT&T’s project management community. The two companies have two distinct project management improvement organizations with slightly different areas of focus. This change forced the PMCOE to re-evaluate the project and determine how to appropriately fuse the strengths of the two organizations. Besides with such a sizeable and worldwide PM population, the PMCOE would have to determine how to best share valuable information on a large scale. Without appropriate communication, the PMCOE risked going unrecognized and not being used to its full potential. On the other hand, the new company has many positives risks. For example, the new AT&T has unsurpassed IP-enabled network assets, solutions and resources on a global scale. As we integrate our networks, route diversity and redundancy will be top priorities. Furthermore, the merger is about combining two companies with complementary strengths and assets to create a stronger company that is able to meet the needs of all wholesale customers today and in the future.
2. Established consultants who were designated to support the various business units within the company. and distributed both company-wide and business unit surveys to identify problem areas (e.g. leadership support, adequate training, etc.) and determine what needs its audience had which could potentially be met by the center. What is more established a formal Communications Management Plan. Establish annual AT&T PM Symposium., to bring significant recognition to the practice of professional project management at AT&T.











Q4. AT&T has found that top management support gave a significant influence on the project management community. How could this support affect the whole project life cycle, and how did the project team get the top management involved in the project?

Answer: 1. People in top management positions, of course, are key stakeholders in projects. A very important factor in helping project managers successfully lead projects is the level of commitment and support they receive from top management. In fact, without top management, many projects will fail.
If the top management is not good at this, then have the side-effect to the project. But normally, Top management commitment is crucial to project mangers for the following reasons:
Project managers need adequate resources. Like the required money, human resources, and visibility for the project.
Project managers often require approval for unique project unique project need in a timely manner.
Project management must have cooperation from people in other parts of the organization.
Project management often needs someone to mentor and coach them on leadership issues.
2. Establish AT&T PM Symposium to bring significant recognition to the practice of professional project management at AT&T. The annual event provides training and empowerment for project managers as well as the opportunity to network and collaborate with peers. Furthermore, leadership involvement in the Symposium has been consistently high.
