Question 2
Project manager will always be the one that played an important role of the success of the project but even the manager itself cannot neglect the people who are helping him for the project to success. So, the project manager would need a way to ensure that the team members are committed to the project all the time. From the article we can see that the project manager are actually have his own way of fitting the job for the team member and separate it in a form of hierarchy which shown how they separate their works into the seven core roles in the project which as the chart below (Sean Schnoor) :-

So, in my personal opinion I think the project manager have use the covey and improving effectiveness which from the author Stephen covey which explain improving effectiveness for the project managers by using the seven habits (Kathy Schwalbe, Pg.370); Firstly, Be proactive where the project manager will try to convince his team member to be proactive where in this macromedia flex the staff actually shown the proactive attitude which they are actually adapt the changing situation with the project manager which shown in the article they actually have eight man which doing a 11 role project.
Secondly, Begin with the end in mind which means that all team member and project manager should have a goal or mission statement before they even start to do anything, so from here we can see that the project manager actually created the job scope for each and everyone in the project which can be seen in the article. Thirdly, Put First Things First means that project manager should put his project as the top priority all the time so that his team will respect him as a project manager because of putting his time and show that the project is important to him, with the time available the project manager can used some time of mentoring the team member or even build a relationship with the stakeholder. We can see that the project manager shown this attitude where it stated in the article saying that ‘the flex project manager can leverage individuals in different places.
Fourthly, think win/win this habits means that the project manager should be using the win/win solution when doing the project with his team member or in other word to be coo petition when making decision, I believe that the project manager have used this habits in order for the project to success with a win/ win solution the team member which have problem will have nothing to said but to accept the solution given by the project manager.
Fifthly, Seek first to understand where listen to others and seeks to understand others ideas from other people. This is also important for the project managers because some team member may have new ideas that might be efficient than the one they discussed so project manager will need to have the habits of seek first to understand only then the project manager will try to listen to the ideas that given by his team member and hence if the idea is brilliant the project will be improve by the ideas given. Sixthly Synergize which means the project manager need to do research on valuing different product to achieve a better result of the project they currently having right now, with this the team member will have more confident to work under the project manager.
Lastly, sharpen the saw means the project manager also needs a rest sometimes or take a time out with his team member into some trip or some vacation so that they won’t have an overwork feeling when working as a team rather than they will have fun and more relaxing feeling, plus build up relationship among themselves when going into a vacation with their own team members with the project managers.
In conclusion, if the project manager has the seven habits on him/herself the member will eventually commit to the project and I feel that the member will have a lot of fun and confident to have the project managers who following these seven habits.
Question 4
Communication is one of the most important tools for the project to success because without communication there will have no interaction between the project managers with his team and this make the project to be not as great as it suppose to be. So in the article the project manager mentions that “one of the key roles is ensuring that there is communication between all of the parties involved in the project” which I think the parties that he means is macromedia, whittmanhart, the stockholder, and also his team member.
So from my perspective I think that the project managers have used several ways for the parties to connect to each other, the tools that he used most probably is by using the Microsoft project to put out a timeframe of the project and the time where he suppose to have a meeting with others parties such as stakeholders. He also probably created a group discussion for the macromedia and whittmanhart by using Microsoft groove (Sean Schnoor) which state in the article with the tools such as Microsoft groove the team members will be able to connect online through home with the features of transferring files, and so on with a highly encrypted security so that the conversation did not leak out to other parties. But for the stakeholder the project manager is most likely have used the method by issue logs (Kathy Schwalbe, Pg.422) so that the stakeholder may know the current progress of the project.
